DONNIE K. WHITLEY
FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
DISTRICT 2
TUESDAY AUGUST 3, 2010
NEW FACE, NEW IDEA, NEW BEGINNING
Candidate for State Representative of District 2, DONNIE WHITLEY will focus on Michigan's
hard-working families. As a husband and father, he understands the urgent need to create jobs
NOW and provide training to working mothers and fathers for the jobs of the future. He can
relate to their concerns of ensuring quality education for our youth, affordable health care for
our seniors and safe neighborhoods for our communities.  These are fundamental elements
upon which to build a quality life.

As a youth, DONNIE WHITLEY attended primary and secondary schools within District 2,
graduating from Osborn High School in 1992. He would later go on to serve his country in the
United States Army, obtaining an Honorable Discharge in 1996 and returned to civilian life as a
resident of District 2.

DONNIE WHITLEY has a vision and a plan to deal effectively with the problem of abandoned
homes.  A 36-year resident of District 2, DONNIE WHITLEY has witnessed firsthand the
spread of abandoned homes in the community.  As a student at Wayne State University, he
analyzed the epidemic, resulting in a 1998 documentary film focusing on the causes of the
problem and its effects on communities within District 2.  No child in this District should have to
fear walking past abandoned homes traveling to and from school.

DONNIE WHITLEY is a union member in good standing since 1989. He has been affiliated with
United Food Workers, AFSCME Council 25, MCO-SEIU, and is currently a member of UAW
Local 6000 (State Employee’s Union). He is a very active union member and will fight to keep
Michigan’s unions strong.

While Detroit has the infrastructure for a variety of new jobs, many of these new opportunities
have bypassed the City Detroit. DONNIE WHITLEY believes that with reallocation of the States
resources, Detroit can prepare its workforce for Green jobs and the growing healthcare
industry.  As a communications major at Wayne State University, DONNIE WHITLEY started a
film company “FilmWaves” because of the lack of local television opportunities. He is an
advocate of Michigan’s growing film industry and understands the multitude of new jobs that
can result.

Due to budgetary cuts and overcrowding the Michigan Department of Corrections has been
forced to more readily place ex-offenders back into our communities.  Often, these individuals
return with few job skills, fewer job prospects and even less hope of creating a new life as a
productive citizen.  Our communities bear the burden of absorbing these individuals and it
adversely affects some Districts more than others. DONNIE WHITLEY has years of experience
working within the criminal justice system and has a plan and a vision to bring attention to this
problem in District 2.

Creating a new framework for education in Michigan is a major component of DONNIE
WHITLEY”S plan to stop the “brain drain” and keep our best skilled and brightest minds in the
State upon graduation from our colleges, universities and trade schools.  We need an
educational system that is bold, forward-looking and effective.

Transforming Michigan’s economy is a challenge, but DONNIE WHITLEY is committed to a
balanced legislature that works for ALL of Michigan’s citizens.
